Isra Miraj 2025

Isra Mi'raj is the Prophet Muhammad's journey to the 7th heaven (Sidratul Muntaha) to receive direct orders from Allah SWT to perform prayer. The Isra Miraj event occurred on the 27th of Rajab, and only happened in one night. Due to using the vehicle Buraq Prophet Muhammad. 

Why is Isra Miraj called a 2-act journey?  Prophet Muhammad's journey from Masjidil Haram to Masjidil Aqsa is called Isra. In Arabic Isra means night journey. While Mi'raj means ascension, where the prophet Muhammad headed to Sidratul Muntaha. In each sky, the Prophet Muhammad met with several previous prophets. Namely: 

• The 1st heaven met the Prophet Adam
• The 2nd heaven met Prophet Isa and Prophet Yahya
• The 3rd heaven met the Prophet Joseph
• The 4th heaven met the Prophet Idris
• The 5th heaven met the Prophet Aaron
• The 6th heaven met the Prophet Moses

Only in the 7th heaven, Prophet Muhammad met directly with Allah SWT. Initially, the Prophet received an order to guide Muslims to pray 50 times a day. Out of great love for his people, Prophet Muhammad asked Allah for leniency many times. Until finally the prayer order became 5 times only. 
 

The Isra Miraj journey has great significance for Muslims. So, many countries commemorate it every 27 Rajab.In Indonesia, Isra Miraj is celebrated as a national holiday. So, when is Isra Miraj 2025? It falls on January 27. Usually, on the night of Isra Mi'raj, there are joint recitation activities, chanting shalawat, and competitions. Well, some cities in Indonesia organize traditional ceremonies to commemorate Isra Miraj. For example: 

• Rajaban Peksi Buraq in Yogyakarta. The event is a parade with a buraq made of Balinese oranges, and filled with fruits. Later, the fruit will be distributed around the Yogyakarta Palace. 
• A lively Torchlight parade is still being held in Bandung. Children, teenagers, and parents will go around carrying torches at night. 
• Rajaban that takes place in Kasepuhan Cirebon Palace usually starts with a pilgrimage to Plangon, then recitation, and concludes with eating bogana rice together. 
• Ambengan is a tradition of eating together in a large container. This ceremony is usually carried out by the people of Central Java and East Java. For example in Magelang. 
   

Commemorating Isra Miraj can be accomplished by attending traditional ceremonies in some cities, participating in local Isra Mi'raj-themed competitions, reciting the Quran, or going on a pilgrimage. Coinciding with the long weekend, you can also take a vacation. Even for those of you who migrate, you can make the Isra Miraj holiday a moment to return to your hometown for a while. Some ideas of activities that can be done include gathering with family or spending time together to tourist destinations, 

Traveling to a tourist favorite city during the Isra Miraj holiday is also interesting. Such as Solo, Jogja, and Malang. If you want to use it for body relaxation, you can find the nearest salon or spa. Staycation can also be an interesting activity idea.  For example, staying at your favorite villa, glamping, or hotel.
