Information About Public Holidays

1. New Year 2024 (January 1)

The New Year 2024 falls on Monday, January 1. Usually, the beginning of the year has been celebrated since the end of the year. There are various ideas of activities that can be done on New Year's Eve. Starting from gathering with family or loved ones, staycation in Puncak villas while karaoke, grilling corn & barbeque. 2. Isra Miraj 2024 (February 8)

Because on that night, the Prophet Muhammad received a direct order from Allah SWT to perform the 5 daily prayers. In Indonesia, Isra Miraj is celebrated as a national holiday. There are various celebrations and unique traditions in each city to celebrate it. If you want to experience it, you can go to Cirebon and visit Kasepuhan Palace. Later, there will be recitation and distribution of bogana rice. If you stay in Bandung, you can see the Torchlight parade that takes place at night. If you're in Jogja, there's Rajaban Peksi Buraq, which is a parade with buraq made of grapefruit peels and filled with fruits. Later, the fruit will be distributed around the Yogyakarta Palace. 3. Chinese New Year 2024 (February 10)

The next national holiday is Chinese New Year, which is a holiday for the Chinese tribe. The determination of Chinese New Year is always different every year. This is because the Chinese calendar system is a lunisolar system that combines the solar cycle and the lunar cycle. Generally, Chinese New Year is celebrated for 15 days, starting from Chinese New Year to Yuan Xiao or Cap Go Meh. Chinese New Year celebrations are usually synonymous with gathering with family, visiting the graves of ancestors, eating Chinese New Year dishes such as basket cakes, mandarin oranges, and sweets. Not to forget, there is a tradition of giving angpao to unmarried family members, decorating the house with all-red trinkets, and lighting fireworks. 4. Nyepi Day 2025 (March 29)

Nyepi Day is a Hindu New Year tradition in Bali celebrated annually in March or April. The word Nyepi comes from the Sanskrit word sepi which means 'silent' or 'calm'. This tradition has been practiced for centuries since the 78th century AD based on the Saka calendar. In 2025, Nyepi Day falls on March 29. In addition to religious ceremonies, Nyepi Day is also synonymous with the Ogoh Ogoh Parade which is held the night before and also Omed-Omedan which takes place after Nyepi. These two activities are very well known and highly anticipated by tourists. This is because this performance has a strong element of arts and culture and involves many people. 5. Good Friday 2025 (18 April)

8. Labor Day (May 1)

10. Birth of Pancasila Day (June 1)

President Soekarno himself conveyed his ideas regarding the basis of the state at the BPUPKI session on June 1, 1945 with the name Pancasila, which consists of the words 'Panca' (five) and 'Sila' (principle / basis). In order to celebrate the birth of Pancasila, people across Indonesia have their own traditions to celebrate. 11. Vesak (May 12)

Vesak Day is an important moment for Buddhists around the world to commemorate three sacred events: the birth, enlightenment, and death of Gautama Buddha. On this occasion, not only religious activities can be carried out but also filled with interesting activities, such as watching art and cultural performances and tasting special dishes served during Vesak Day. 12. Eid al-Adha (June 17)

Namely when Prophet Ibrahim was willing to sacrifice his son Ismail as a form of realization of knowledge of God which was then replaced by a larger sacrifice. The usual routine is to perform the Eid al-Adha prayer and then slaughter the sacrificial animals. Apart from enjoying the sacrificial animals, people generally also celebrate Eid al-Adha by visiting relatives, going to tourist attractions, or relaxation. 13. Islamic New Year (July 7)

Maulid Nabi is the anniversary of the birth of the prophet Muhammad every 12 Rabiul Awal. In 2024, the birthday of Prophet Muhammad falls on September 16. In Indonesia, there are various celebrations and traditions as a form of joy for the birth of the Prophet. One of the most popular is the Sekaten ceremony held at the Yogyakarta Palace and Surakarta Palace. Sekaten takes place from 5 to 12 Rabiul Awal with various stages.
