In 1937, a new airline called Flugfélag Akureyrar was founded in northern Iceland, known as Icelandair. As of April 2018, the airline has operated scheduled services to 48 cities in 16 countries on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean.
The airline operates outside of Iceland and utilizes Iceland's geographical location halfway between North America and Europe to build a growing international route network with Iceland as a link. Icelandair is part of the Icelandair Group, which operates in the global airline and tourism sector, with Iceland as the focal point of its international route network.
In recent years, many changes have been made to Icelandair's operations to reduce CO2 emissions, including the implementation of winglets to overcome barriers, save fuel, and minimize fuel consumption during landings. The airline also runs an active fuel monitoring program that aims to reduce CO2 emissions. Icelandair has been a member of the IATA (International Air Transport Association) since 1950, AEA (European Airlines Association) since 1957, and the FSF (Aviation Safety Foundation) since 1966.

There are some examples of items that are prohibited to be carried inside your carry-on baggage include lighter fluid, oxygen bottles, fireworks, paints, and tear gas. Personal items are allowed only in limited quantities such as hairspray, deodorant, fragrance, and medicines.
