Kenya Airways Features
Kenya Airways, a member of the Sky Team Alliance and also a member of the African Airline Association since 1977, is a leading African airline that flies to 54 destinations worldwide, 41 of which are in Africa and carry more than four million passengers annually. Kenya Airways Ltd., better known as Kenya Airways, was founded in 1977, right after the dissolution of East African Airways.
The airline was owned by the Government of Kenya until April 1995 and was privatized in 1996, making Kenya Airways the first African country airline to succeed. Kenya Airways is currently a public-private partnership. The largest shareholder is the Government of Kenya (48.9%), 38.1% owned by KQ Lenders Company 2017 Ltd., followed by KLM, which has a 7.8% stake in the company. Private owners own the rest; shares are traded on the Nairobi Stock Exchange, Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange, and the Uganda Stock Exchange.
Kenya Airways continues to improve services by using 36 new model fleets, including its flagship B787 Dreamliner aircraft. Kenya Airways is proud to be at the forefront of connecting Africa to the international world through its hub at the ultra-modern Terminal 1A at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi. In January 2020, just as it celebrated the airline's 43rd anniversary, Kenya Airways was named the 2019 African Leading Airline by the World Travel Awards.
