Qantas Airways Features
Qantas Airways Limited is Australia's leading airline and the largest airline based on fleet size, flights, and international destinations. The airline is the third oldest airline in the world, after KLM and Avianca, which was founded in November 1920 and began international passenger flights in May 1935. The name Qantas comes from the abbreviation for "Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services" and is nicknamed "The Flying Kangaroo." Qantas is a founding member of the Oneworld airline alliance, along with American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, and Canadian Airlines, which are now no longer in operation.
Qantas currently serves flights to more than 150 destinations worldwide, with its central hub located at Sydney's Kingsford Smith International Airport and Melbourne Airport. As of March 2014, Qantas had a 65% share of Australia's domestic market and carried 14.9% of all passengers traveling in and out of Australia. Various subsidiary airlines with regional operating areas and on several major routes in Australia are under the banner of QantasLink. Qantas also owns Jetstar Airways, a low-cost airline that operates international services from Australia and domestic services in Australia and New Zealand.
Every year, millions of people rely on the Qantas Group to take them somewhere. This airline has served the aviation world for almost 100 years. Starting with only one to two passengers on each flight, Qantas now flies 450 passengers to travel around the world on one of its Airbus A380 aircraft. Qantas has now grown into an airline with 220 aircraft in its fleet, consisting of Airbus and Boeing.
Over the years, Qantas has always improved their technology and services to give their passengers an unrivaled flight. Qantas aims to have a positive impact on the broader community while minimizing adverse effects on the natural environment, as well as achieving the highest standards of safety and integrity in the aviation world.
