I would strongly recommend this establishment. I stayed at the establishment for one night, and the staff was incredibly welcoming, accommodating, and easy to work with. The establishment has excellent communication, and they allowed me to park my rental bike in front of their facility. If the language barrier was an issue, the staff could speak excellent english and even directed me to topnotch restaurants and attractions. The bathroom was cozy and soothing, and the room was very cozy and clean. The tea ceremony was quite intriguing and gave off the impression that i was in a samurai movie. My first time staying in a ryokan, and i was blown away by it! This place is quite typical and serene. The owner is a very nice person. She guided me to witness the tea ceremony and took care of every detail of my stay as if nobody else had. It was truly amazing!.

The owners of this tiny and cozy ryokan are wonderful. They immerse you in a traditional japanese experience. I highly recommend the japanese bath and the beautiful tea ceremony. The best stay in japan.

Stayed here on a Solo trip through Japan and it was the highlight of my trip. A taste of authentic, traditional Japan, with super welcoming hosts, delicious breakfasts, and a special and calming tea ceremony. The bath and the end of day was a great way to relax after! The location is in a less touristy area but still easily accessible by bus from Kyoto station. The owner was able to recommend some local places and events to visit, and provided great insight into some of the traditions involved! To top it all, they were able to have my luggage delivered to the train station the same day, so no need to worry about lugging them around :) Would happily recommend this!

We had a wonderful time at ryokan tori. The ryokan was beautiful and meticulously maintained. The service was out of this world. With the owner being extremely helpful and kind. This was a great experience and must do while in japan.

Im not sure how to express how wonderful the service was. The tea ceremony was just the icing on the cake. The cleanliness, attention to detail, and breakfast were all top notch! Overall a great experience and would recommend it to anyone.

Our two-night stay at Ryokan Tori was the real highlight of our trip. It is located conveniently close to the Golden Temple and other historic sites. The area is pleasantly quiet, feels local, away from the crowds, and has great places to eat. The Ryokan is beautiful, lovingly furnished with antiques and with a beautiful courtyard with mossy stones, trees, and a fountain. At night we sat on our room’s covered balcony and just enjoyed the space — it was so peaceful. Most importantly, you won’t find any better hosts. Not only were we treated to a welcome tea and treat, a tea ceremony, and had daily baths prepared — we were also able to go to our hosts with any questions about the area, local restaurants, etc. They were always available and we were sad to leave so soon. We enjoyed the space, the excellent food (my ridiculous inability to eat fish was gracefully catered for), and the conversations with our hosts. We hope to return soon. If you are thinking of booking, you found a great place. 😌

The tea ceremony, breakfast, japanese bathroom, and lovely interior make the price for one night worthwhile. I would recommend staying for one night for the experience.

Our threeweek trip to japan was the most memorable place to stay. It is a unique experience to stay at a ryokan like tori. It provides a glimpse into japans rich history and cultural heritage, as well as the best anchor for any trip to kyoto. We did stay at a few other ryokans during our trip, and while all of them were delightful, none matched our experience at ryokan tori. A captivating tea ceremony, a welcoming bath after a long day of sightseeing, and a hearty and delectable traditional japanese breakfast all deserve five stars, but these are just the addons to what is a fantastic level of aesthetic, comfort, and service.

You must treat yourself to a stay at this lovely ryokan. Traditional japanese rooms with tatami mats and futons simple and elegant stylings with lovely details. The shared bath is great and the manager will run a new one if the previous guests leave it less than perfect toilets and showers also shared one female and male toilet and a shower between 3 rooms. Breakfast is japanese so if miso soup and fish arent your idea for a good morning, talk to the staff to see what they can do. A tea ceremony with the main manager was a great experience she was very pleasant to talk to and it felt very relaxing and informative. You are given slippers and a robe/kimono (yukata) to wear while staying at the ryokan itself which helps you tube into the relaxed atmosphere. Cash payments only until 7-11 s about. Remember you may have a withdrawal limit with your bank.

The ryokan tori is located in the northern part of kyoto city, close to the golden pavilion, and within walking distance of nijo castle. I recommend taking a taxi for around y 2900 from the kyokan station. After leaving a larger city, my partner and i would recommend staying here for an overnight stay. There is a communal bath that is run at 7.00 pm and a tea ceremony at around 9-10 pm. Breakfast is beautifully prepared the next morning. You can purchase a daily bus pass from the counter, which is good value if you take the bus more than three times a day.

If you are doing what i did and researching ryokans, you probably have 19288 tabs open right now. Stop looking and staying here. Our stay here was the highlight of our trip. The owners of ryokan tori go above and beyond in every sense of the word. We have never felt more welcome or cared for. They are truly the kindest, most hospitable people. From the moment we arrived, they set us up in our tatami room, complete with yukatas, got our private bath ready for us, and then escorted us to a tea ceremony. Satako gave us some dinner suggestions and while we were out, our beds were ready. My husband cant stop talking about how comfortable the bed was. The next morning we had the most delicious traditional japanese breakfast and left. They have paid great attention to detail, not only with the care of their guests but also with the renovations. The hospitality here is unmatched. Would stay 2838383 more times. I highly recommend staying here too!.

A very zenlike place to stay! Amazing service with an amazing hostess, she had a tea ceremony for us in honor of our first visit to japan and said she would test us out for an even more elaborate ceremony on our next visit! The japanese bath was unique, and the rooms were amazing and beautiful!.

We stayed near gion for two nights and ended our trip to kyoto with one night here which was perfect. We had a wonderful experience here. The host is very warm and welcoming, and we were greeted with tea and a traditional sweet. You can wear yukata around the property and really enjoyed the tea ceremony, bath, and breakfast. Its a bit far from the trendier areas in kyoto, but its great if you want to experience some traditional japanese practices at an excellent price point too.

The reviews are selfexplanatory. I have never received better service from a shop, restaurant, hotel, or other establishment.
