We were looking for a relaxing night in Melbourne and saw that the Westin was advertising a High Tea that looked exactly what we were looking for. We booked a room and then rang to book the High Tea. When we began to speak to Barbara about booking the High Tea in our room she was not certain that could be done, so she put me on hold and checked with the kitchen. We initially thought we would have it in our room but as check in was not until 3:00pm we decided to arrive at 1:00pm and relax with the High Tea until check in. After speaking to the kitchen staff Barbara came back and said that they hadn’t decided whether this was OK or not but would call us back and let us know. At this point we told Barbara that we had decided to have the High Tea at 1:00pm. With this amount of negotiation about the booking of the High Tea we never even questioned whether or not it was available. When we arrived we were extremely disappointed to find that the High Tea had been suspended for the time being but would begin again the following day (Wednesday). Had we been told this when talking to Barbara we would have changed the booking to Wednesday night. Staff at this level should be aware of what is or, is not, available so they can reasonably deal with customer’s requests. Due to the main dining room being closed the menu was very limited we wound up having a bowl of chips, a wagu cheeseburger, a few croquettes and a pavlova. Hardly matches our expectation of a High Tea. Definitely not the relaxing day off we had planned. In closing we have to say that the staff, (including Ben), managed the situation very well and settled us with a couple of glasses of champagne and a cheese platter at no charge, followed by an early checkin and upgrade including a bottle of Chandon. Still extremely disappointed!!! Kevin and Diane.

We stayed here overnight on NYE and took advantage of the package which included $70 spending allowance and parking included. Altogether it was a good experience, although, as to be expected, it was very busy. The room was clean The pool is underground and I tried to swim but there were more than the 12 people allowed already there with no sign of anyone to control this. So no swimming! The staff were friendly and helpful otherwise.

A wonderful stay once again, made even more memorable this time by Front Office Manager, Cameron, who looked after me so well. The rooms are really comfortable with everything you could possibly need and my family and I had the most amazing Christmas thanks to his thoughtfulness. Feeling totally relaxed, after a delicious brunch in the Lobby Lounge, finally it was time for us to leave this fantastic Hotel which has the added bonus of being in such a great location ... sadly our three nights had come to an end. All of the Associates we came across were eager to make sure we enjoyed our stay, even though they themselves were missing out on Christmas with their family and friends to ensure we had a good time! I need to make special mention of Caroline at Reception who was not only charming but extremely helpful, as was James. I am already looking forward to our next visit to this Hotel as it now definitely feels like our home away from home!

so i’ve finally found a place i like enough to keep coming back! all my melbourne staycations are at the westin. they have great views of the manchester unity building, the town hall, the nicholas building and the cathedral thingy, so you’re surrounded by pretty city views. the rooms are CLEAN!! i get allergies, you can request an allergy free room and they’ll change out the feather pillows etc. the staff are super nice! the shower is to die for... i actually forgot this, this visit and kept putting off until my last day and had the best shower i’ve had all year! the electrics in my room were a little kooky, and you have to check what’s happening with the metro tunnel works out the front, they’re silent right now but i’m told there’ll be new work on the 14th december. even at its peak, when i was directly above the tunnel entrance the sound was ok, i do sleep with ear plugs as i’m super sensitive to noise. but i imagine new construction at street level would be less fun to listen to. it’s so central, near all the best restaurants, has a 7-11 across the road for emergency bandaids etc... between lord of the fries and subway i can get a good meal to start my day, and when things get covid normal and we get the allegro breakfast buffet back, well that’s to die for! anything you could imagine for breakfast!

I was in Melbourne for a three day meeting a few days before all international flights we cancelled due to COVID-19, I ended up staying at the hotel for 231 days being separated all this time, and still, from my family who were living overseas. Melbourne, Victoria suffered not just one but two extremely restrictive lockdowns where one could only leave your abode for no more than one hour per day and you could not venture past more than 5kms from your residence. Although, by law, the hotel was unable to provide room service or food from their restaurant, the Westin team made sure that I knew where the best restaurants with a takeaway menu were. When the gym closed the Westin Team provided me with a Spin Bike so I was able to exercise in the comfort of my own room. Even though I was one of the only guests in the hotel, the service provided by the Westin Team was first class. I was provided with all the amenities and services to make my my stay as comfortable as possible. On my birthday and Father’s Day I was surprised with bottle of champagne and a wonderful cheese platter, which was highly unexpected and although separated from my family did make both days very special. Throughout my stay all of the Westin Team were not only extremely professional but also genuinely friendly. As I was still working whilst stranded in Melbourne and required the extra office area the Westin Team upgraded me to their Regency Suite which really helped my keep my sanity as I was able to separate my work and living experiences that provided me with a level of normality which would not have been possible in a normal suite. The Westin Team also provided me with a quality coffee machine, access to a microwave and blender. They also provided all of the necessary cables and power extension cords so that I could integrate my computer to their entertainment system and add several extra monitors to enable me to work productively from the study are of the suite. The Westin Team, on several occasions, organized emergency courier services, took copious amount of deliveries, access to their loading bay and basically provided me with any service they could reasonably undertake, even offering to was my bike, that I purchased for outside fitness. When it came obvious that travel between the different Australian states was becoming possible, I mentioned to the Westin Team that I was thinking of moving up to my home town, Brisbane, until international travel became less restrictive. The Westin Team reached out to their sister hotels in Brisbane, the W Brisbane and the Westin Brisbane and explained the situation I was in and together the they were able to offer an extremely generous rate that nearly matched what I the Westin Melbourne was offering me. I can honestly say in all my years of travel, over thirty, have I ever felt so welcome and treated as such an honoured guest than by the Team at the Westin Melbourne, and because of their selfless efforts to make me feel welcome made a very intangible situation less stressful. Prior to this trip I had stayed at the Westin Melbourne several times, no longer than ten days, and I should also point out that the Westin Team, during these stays, also showed the level of dedication that they portrayed during the Melbourne COVID-19 lockdown.
