We struggled to find a decent hotel in Kuala Belait so we had quite low expectations - thank goodness. To be fair to this hotel they handled the booking swiftly, communication was always prompt and they were flexible enough to provide an extra bed in our suite (although the cost of B$100 per night was a little steep). It was in a good location (a one minute walk to the main shopping/eating street) and our room had a beautiful view of both the river and the town. Our room was clean and fairly well presented and housekeeping was fine. We requested transport on one of the days and this was also fine. The beds were comfortable and the two bathrooms large, both with a shower and a bath. There was a TV in each room and a DVD player in the lounge. There was also a decent hairdryer and the laundry service was good value - although you had to bring it down yourself. That's the positives. Here's where I think they need to improve. It all just feels a little strange. The reception area is a mish mash of styles (with an inside water feature with turtles and carp!) and a counter so high that you can barely see who is behind it. The staff weren't rude...but wouldn't speak unless we said a hearty hello. The suite was really big floor space wise, but we had booked it because it was a suite with a kitchen area. As we were there for 4 nights and it was a working break (and with little to do in KB) we had planned to do a little self catering. Unfortunately there was one small pan and absolutely no cooking utensils. Nothing. Just a set of 4 dishes and cutlery (there were 5 of us!) There were absolutely no cleaning facilities (such as a cloth or washing up liquid) so you would have had to do a big shop in order to function. The fridge was tiny - we struggled to fit some large bottles of water in there. As a result we ended up eating out for every meal - so would probably have booked 2 rooms rather than spend the extra on the suite. We requested late check out and the charge was B$50 an hour, which again seemed a little on the expensive side. There weren't enough towels for each of us (and no floor or hand towels) and in terms of toiletries there was simply hand wash and a large bottle of generic liquid (in one bathroom only) For B$550 per night I would have expected the basics, including half decent shampoo, conditioner and body lotion. We requested an iron (which was delivered promptly) but it was pretty useless, and the ironing board had a screw loose so was really shaky. As a result we paid for some shirts to be pressed which returned looking exactly the same. The info in the room folder was out of date (wrong breakfast times etc) and the only phone with numbers on had the wrong number for reception. The air con in the bedrooms was good but in the lounge was poor, making it too warm to spend any time in there. We had heard that the second floor restaurant was ok but when we found it it was closed. The door to our balcony seemed very insecure (and there was no safe as advertised) and the door from our balcony to the air con unit banged constantly in the night as it was closed with a small bit of wire. We ended up sitting a dining chair in front of it. The wifi was so weak you often had to sit in the lobby outside the room to get a connection. The worst part was breakfast. The setting is really beautiful - right on the river. The hot food was luke warm and hardly anything left when we got there. There isn't any service to speak of - I asked for coffee and someone pointed at a machine inside. The juice was warm and the jugs leaked. Fortunately we got 4 'free' breakfasts with our suite (not sure why not 5!) but we only ate there on 2 of the 4 mornings. I don't think I've ever turned down a free breakfast before! I just can't help but feel it wouldn't take much to make it considerably better. Overall we didn't have a horrible stay - but largely because we had read some reviews and had low expectations. We only chose this hotel over the others (with better reviews) as we thought the suite would ultimately save us money and make life with children easier. But B$550 per night was poor value for money. And, like breakfast, it wouldn't take an awful lot to make this hotel an awful lot better.

Speed of internet was poor, and the quality of food was not up to the standard. The worst was the poor water pressure and cold shower. Having said that, the staff were very friendly and helpful, making overall experience not super bad.

Lack of facilities in the room, air conditioner always failed , poor TV program. Room smelly. Poor breakfast. Location is at the town. The advantage is this hotel has free parking lots for their customer to park their car with security guards. WiFi always not available and not stable signal.

My overall stay was okay until i encounter such experience where i was fined for parking next to the Hotel (which i thought was the Hotel parking lot - turns out that is the town's parking area) The hotel or the front counter could have a decency to inform or to put a label which parking area is for hotel guests and which are not. Its definitely inconvenient to find the booth to pay these parking fine especially if you are not familiar with the town.

I would never come back to this hotel again. The room was not clean, and also the staff were not polite. Some even raised their voice when we request for something. The food service, are at best, appaling.
