We were three couples traveling the concept canal by boat and chose to spend our first night at hotel kennels docks. Dinner reservation was made for rp, and we quickly arrived and were seated. Our waitress was very pleasant and explained dinner specials to us. Shortly after we ordered our food which consisted of a few steaks, club sandwich, hot turkey sandwich, liver, onions, and chicken. A few salads were ordered as appetizers. Now, this is where the experience took a dive for the worst. It took nearly an hour before we received salads and only after telling the staff, an additional hour to receive our meals. The mains didn't arrive until 9 am. The food was mostly good, but the club sandwich was cold and soggy. What made matters worse and prompted me to write this review was that about 45 minutes after we sat down the hotel owner sat next to us with his party and was immediately served their meal. They sat next to us, ate their meal, drank their wine, played their card tricks another story and could only notice that we were still waiting for our meal. In addition to the owner's party, no other guests were left seated. To make matters worse when we engaged the owner in small talk, he never even cared about our dining experience, making it obvious that he didn't care about his customers

I was ready to be disappointed in the upkeep of the buildings after reading the previous reviews about this hotel, but I was eager to eat, and that was the case. The exterior is worn out with peeling paint, rusting eavestreaks, and rotting wood. Yet, step inside the main building and you will travel back in time. Although we didn't continue to the lounge, it appeared really cozy. The dining area was bright and clean, and the chairs were cozy. Despite the ad a little slow service, our six-person group seemed to enjoy their food. Nevertheless, this time of year, staffing issues arise, and there were only two servers available for a substantial number of diners. The proprietors should, Hopefully, respect previous reviews of the lodging and update the rooms and services, as this historic location is a treasure in terms of ambiance and location.
