The only reasons I stayed here were the price and the World-famous Equator Monument. I was surprised at how much more was available—the busy riverfront, a 24-hour ferryboat [“bridging the nation”], markets, including a fish/Farmers market, and specialties like sewing! Unfortunately, I was hugely dismayed with the hostel aspect if this lovely and sometimes lively space. It has three levels, the bottom primarily consisting of the restaurant & reception; the second having segregated dorms; the third, private rooms (not available when I was there?!). The reception/restaurant/staff were absolutely the best. However, the problems began with the ascent(and descent) to the hostel/overnighting. There are NO HANDRAILS! Maybe young people can blithely go up & down, but oldsters, especially those of us who are somewhat disabled (the severely disabled/wheelchair would NOT be able to access this part if the facility) would be in an extremely tense situation. The dorm room has perhaps 8-10 bunk beds, which would be OK if each bunk had a personal reading light and power outlet. But that was not the case; there were a few overhead Eco-bulbs which lit up the entire space; eye mask required! There were only TWO outlets that I could find, NO WAY near enough if every bunk was occupied. Heck, I bunked close to one outlet to have first/prior use—if that was called for. The shower/toilet facilities were good, ample water, hit & cold. But the lack of handrails is why I will never return and the hostel/overnight section earns my much UNwanted “Wheel of DISapprival!”

When you backpacked to go West Borneo , Try to stay overnight or two @Canopy Center Hostel. There 2 Dormitory Rooms, for 17 bunkbeds with very very cheap price per night and 2 Standard rooms for 2 -3 persons

-The dorm is clean. -The staff are very helpful and friendly. -Clean towel is provided. -Cozy safe is available downstairs. Foods in the cafe are delicious. -Wifi connection is good. I feel comfortable to work remotely from this place. -Hot water is not available, but that is okay since the weather here is already hot :D -Locker, table, and mirror are not available. -I like the decorations in the cafe and dorm.

We planned our trip to 4 day trip Danau Sentarum with Deny and Venie at Canopy. No doubt they are among the best people to organize anything in the area. We went fishing, stayed at traditional longhouses, played with the children, drank housewine with the elders, went to an island in the middle of the lake to watch the sunset... Clearly the locals knew Deny very well and welcomed us so warmly! We really felt like we were living as and with the locals (early roosters included :) ). It was a great adventure and would highly recommend anyone looking for some cultural experience to go for it! Ben & Cecile

I stayed here as a stopover to Palangkan Bun. It is a good hostel with a clean dorm. Where you could sit and eat was very nice. I definitely would recommend the nasi goreng canopy, delicious. The owners were very friendly and helpful. They also do tours so they have a lot of connections.
