We stayed twice on our way to and from the Derawan islands. On the face of it, this is a beautiful little resort. The wooden bungalows are set in a pleasant garden and we were pleased with the size and decor of the room. Food is nice and the staff, whilst speaking limited English are friendly.
However, on our first stay, when we went to get in to bed we discovered it had not been changed since the previous guest had stayed in it. There were hairs and a stain and the pillows did not smell clean. We informed the staff and they were apologetic and immediately changed the sheets. We thought (hoped) it was an oversight.
On our second stay we check the bed immediately and guess what - hairs in the bed and smelly pillows. They promised to change the bed whilst we were out at dinner. When we returned, we discovered they had moved us to a different room. We never found out why. This time the bed was clean but the bathroom was not. Someone with a poor aim had left pee stains on the toilet seat and the sink was dirty. This is just not acceptable. We're of the impression that because they have so many guests staying just one night, they get a little lazy.
If you choose to stay, check the cleanliness of the room immediately.
