Although Sarangan hotel is pretty old, the room I stayed in is clean and spacious with a fireplace. It gets very windy and cold at night but with the double doors in the room, it helps to stop the cold draft from entering the bedroom. The scenery of Sarangan lake is lovely in the evening and early morning where it is covered with mist. A nice quiet place for family to stay and there is even a playground for children.

Don't be afraid of the pictures in the reviews, it is not the newest hotel I've seen, but the view in the morning compensates you when you are stepping on the balcony. The rooms are clean, yes in some places you could see watermarks but this is what you've seen on the review pictures. The hotels own kitchen is really good. The staff is friendly and kind, although English is a bit of a challenge. The hotel has ping pong table and other small items to spend your time with after or before your dinner.

The staff of the Sarangan went out of their way to make us feel welcome. The family rooms overlooking the lake are old school but spacious with great balconies and a fire. The place has so much character and the breakfast are excellent. We were fortunate to visit during the Asian games so watched the badminton on the TV in the long with the staff and played tenable tennis in the old bar. I hope more people visit this hotel as its a hidden gem and felt like stepping back in tome

According to front office, the hotel was built in 1957. Although quite old, but really exotic n nicest lakeview. It is because of the first hotel in nearby Sarangan lake, so that the location was best chosen. We stayed in couple room no 11. The plus was a very goodview as photographed. The minus was broken interphone, no coffee-tea maker, CRT TV with no TV cable, no wifi in the room. Hopefully the hotel management will improve in the future.

This hotel is an old colonial hotel that has definitely seen better days. It is dirty, run down, and has the cheapest possible furnishings in the rooms, such as a torn indoor/outdoor commercial rug, and a very old mattress, hard and with the springs digging into my back. There was no shower curtain or enclosure, filthy grout and soap scum, and grime on the walls. Broken lampshades next to the bed. Fluorescent lightbulbs for that industrial, interrogation room look. No hot water. The French couple that was using the WiFi in the lobby when we arrived was equally displeased, and when I asked if there was a problem with the wifi (only available in the lobby), he said, "This whole hotel is a problem." Sadly, I agree. The view of the lake is spectacular, but that's the only draw. You can hear your neighbor snoring and the staff talking loudly at 5 am. The food is not great, and they hounded us to eat there, following us around with a menu and repeatedly telling us we had to order. When i said i wanted to eat somewhere else maybe, he said no, and indicated there was nowhere else to eat at the lake (untrue). To add insult to injury, they have the nerve to charge 500,000 rupiah for the basic double rooms, more than we paid for our four star accommodation in Semarang the night before. Highway robbery. Disappointing stay.
