We stayed for 3 nights, after a thunderstorm on day 1 we came back to find our window had leaked and the floor had become a swimming pool. We also noticed the walls were leaking in places and there was many signs of damp and mould in the bathroom. The place smelt pretty funky, especially the pillows. WiFi was so weak we could only get it in one part of the room (not on the bed) and even then it’s only good enough to send and receive messages, forget browsing the internet. There is also no staff in the building, you have to go 3 doors down to the sister hotel to check in and out. And for good measure there is a building site to wake you up at 7am if you’re at the back of the building, at the front there is a staircase for domestic staff which was very noisy at all times of the day. On the positive side, the staff were very polite and found us a new room immediately; air con, towels and soap were provided; and on the whole the place was clean.

Location is good.At night there is a pasar malam (night market) just across the road. Walk 10 mins, there is a Filipino market, next to it is the Pasar Besar (traditional market) where you find curry leaves, chicken, cinnamon etc. We checked in Hotel Iskandar at night and was informed that our room is on level 4. No lift so we had to walked 4 storeys high.Room had no windows.Blanket was the thin, almost transparent type. For a night stay it was still ok.But for that kind of price, I rather pay more to get a much comfortable space.

My flight was late at night so I decided to choose a budget hotel that is not too far from the airport since I planned to go to Kundasang in the morning. This hotel is perfect for that reason and one of the cheapest that I could find in Kota Kinabalu area. No lift though, had to bring all my bags up to the third floor. Water dispenser and ironing area are available at the first floor. Parking at night is free and according to the receptionist after 8 a.m. you need to display parking coupons - available at 7eleven right next to it. Maybank is just across the hotel. The room was clean and spacious and have all the basic things. Suitable for those who just want a place to rest for the night and nothing else. They also have wifi but very slow and weak so I ended up using my own mobile data. Maybe they can improve on this.

We visited five or six hotels before choosing this one. For the same price the room is bigger than other and the bathroom is really good. There are two building and only one has a lift. We were in that one. I cant say anything about the other building We went there twice and we will return a third time if back in KK. And last, people at the front desk are very kind..

Good budget hotel to stay in Kota Kinabalu town centre. Clean and present to stay. Strategic local and easy access to nearby point of interest like Gaya street, Water front, Filipino market and pasar malam.
