National Museum 

The establishment of the Central Jakarta National Museum cannot be separated from the role of the Bataviaasch Genootschap van Kunsten en Wetenschappen association. The group was founded by the Dutch government on April 24, 1778. Looking at its history, it turns out that this museum has existed in Indonesia for a long time. Have you visited yet?

Most Indonesian people call the National Museum the Elephant Building or the Elephant Museum. The reason is, there is a bronze elephant statue in the front yard of this museum. This elephant statue was a gift from the King of Thailand, namely Chulalongkorn (Rama V), who had visited the National Museum in 1871. 

Until now, the National Museum stores more than 190 thousand objects of various types of historical value. Starting from prehistoric times such as skulls, statues, inscriptions, and accessories from the Hindu-Buddhist empire, miniature of traditional houses, and many beautiful ceramic relics from the Dutch and Japanese colonial eras. 

The area of ​​this tourist spot reaches 26,500 square meters and is divided into two buildings. Building A is used for exhibition space and collection storage and Building B (Arca Building) is used for exhibitions, conference rooms, offices, laboratories, and libraries.

There are three modes of public transportation that can take you to the National Museum, namely the Transjakarta Bus, the Commuter Line Electric Rail Train (KRL), and the Integrated Raya Mode (MRT). The bus stop closest to the Elephant Museum is the National Monument Bus Stop, which is located right across from this building. The Transjakarta bus that passes here is bus number 1 with the Blok M-Kota route, number 2 for the Harmoni-Pulo Gadung route, and 1A for the City Hall-Pantai Maju/PIK route.

Meanwhile, the closest station to the National Museum is Juanda Station. From that station, you have to go to the Juanda Bus Stop to take the TransJakarta corridor 2. Then, get off at the Harmoni Bus Stop. Finally, you can take the MRT, especially for those departing from Cinere, Pamulang, Pondok Labu, Lebak Bulus, and other parts of southern Jakarta. You can take the MRT from the station located between Lebak Bulus to HI Roundabout. 

Operational Hours of the National Museum 

This museum is open every day, from Monday to Sunday. But you have to remember this thing,  National Museum does not open on religious holidays. For operating hours, this place is open from 08.00 to 16.00 WIB. So, don't come too late, so you can explore every corner of this museum exhibition.
