About National Museum

The National Museum of Indonesia is also called the Elephant Museum. This is because there is a bronze elephant statue of Thailand's King Chulalongkorn in the front area of the museum. It suffered a fire in September 2023 and was closed for renovations for a year.

Now, the National Museum of Indonesia reopens with a new face. Starting from new technological innovations in the ImmersiveA studio, a new statue room arrangement, the 'Getting to Know the Faces of the Archipelago' feature, post-fire exhibitions and repatriation exhibitions of various collections recently repatriated from the Netherlands.

The National Museum's collection totals more than 140,000 objects from prehistoric times, Hindu-Buddhist period relics, colonial period relics, and ethnographic collections. Some popular must-see collections are the Ganesha statue, Bhairawa statue, ceramic collection, gold jewelry collection, kris, Banten sultanate crown, and Prince Diponegoro's horse saddle.
